The story of OpTic Gaming began in 2006 when founder Hector "H3CZ" Rodriguez established a Call of Duty 2 team originally named Enigma, focused on Search and Destroy and Team Deathmatch. By 2008, the original group had grown older and began to dissipate; with Enigma disbanding, KR3W handed control to long-time member Hector "H3CZ" Rodriguez, who then rebranded the team as OpTic. Under H3CZ's leadership in 2010, the team found new life on the MLG scene with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. In Their Own Story

The modern chapter of OpTic Gaming is defined by intense ownership battles and a triumphant return. In 2017, Texas Rangers co-owner Neil Leibman and investor Chris Chaney acquired a majority interest, forming Infinite Esports & Entertainment to house OpTic alongside the Houston Outlaws. However, on June 12, 2019, Immortals Gaming Club (IGC) bought out Infinite. Shortly after, on September 15, 2019, Hector Rodriguez left his CEO role to join NRG Esports as co-CEO. The turning point arrived on November 11, 2020, when IGC and Rodriguez announced he had fully reacquired the rights to the OpTic Gaming name. That same day, the Chicago Huntsmen CDL slot was rebranded to OpTic Chicago, marking the return of the "real OpTic" to the scene. In November 2021, Envy Gaming merged with the brand, bringing the Texas roster into their fold while Rodriguez became President.
